I’ve helped this agency find talent a number of times over the years – they’re one of my favourite agencies to work with. That makes writing something new about them all the more difficult though!
In the past I’ve used phrases like, ‘a thinking man’s agency’ or ‘smile in the mind’ to conjure up an idea of the type of designer they’re looking for. All that still stands but it’s craft and delivery that’s very much the focus of this role. Not in a pure artworker sense of course, we’re very definitely looking for a designer here, we’re just looking for a designer that cares as deeply about the output as the concept – someone who’s meticulous about making sure that projects really work.
So the practicalities then; based in central Manchester, this is a relatively small design shop – 4 of them in total – including two founding partners that are still very much at the heart of the business. Their work is so much bigger than that though – working at boardroom level, with a range of big-name clients, they’re delivering work that’s much greater than the sum of their parts.
Experience of what working in a real-world agency environment is like is pretty crucial then, and ideally you’ll have had at least a couple of years in an established, brand consultancy so you’ll know process.
In return, you get the chance to work with some of the best brains in the business and a level of freedom and responsibility you’d be lucky to get at this stage of your career. There’s plenty on offer in terms of package and perks too but I’ll be worried if this is your primary driver.
If you think you should be in with a shout, drop me a line with your CV and some examples of work and let’s talk!
